Moscow Be Afraid! Be Very Afraid!

Ok I might not be able to speak Russian and I might not have any prior social work experience but today I found out that I have been accepted for a traineeship in Moscow, its one that I have wanted so much. I might not have had all the criteria that they wanted but what I do have is a lot of motivation and enthusiasm, that I don't feel can be matched.

The traineeship lets me work with a topic that I have being really interested and maybe sometimes addicted to for a while now, HIV/AIDS. What HIV/AIDS in Russia? Surely there is no problem there, well thats were people are wrong, although Sub-Saharan Africa is the worst infected, Ukraine and Russia have the two fastest increases of cases in the world. The rest of the Baltic area is also very badly struck with drug use being the main cause of it.

This has made my day much brighter and no amount of snow is going to bring me down. Ye it is actually snowing in Ireland at the end of February, I don't know where they get the idea of global warming from.

Hello there,
I have been reading my friends' postings and then somehow wondered around the web page and saw your posting. I was almost going to close the web page when "Moscow be afraid!..." title caught my attention. The reason why it did is because I am russian and i live in Moscow (altho i am a student in Canada). I thought that was pretty weird and even tho i dont know you, I kept reading. I want to congratulate you with the traineeship and hope you will have fun.
There is only one thing that keeps bugging me (perhaps cause i live there) - why did you choose russia? It is really hard for me to imagine anyone volunterily to work in Russia. Anyhow, i will probably never find out the answer, but i couldn't help writing this comment.
Hope you will have fun and enjoy your time in Moscow...
...and Good Luck!

p.s. sorry for privacy invasion:D

Hi Paddy, welcome on board. :)

You should so do Moscow. I was offered an internship opportunity there when I was graduating but I had major "senioritis" and could not wait to be done with school. In retrospect I haven't really used my Russian since college and I've always wondered if things would be different had I gone. It sounds like an amazing opportunity to do something that matters; go for it!
